Viewing and Using Documents

Thumbnail is the default option for the display of search results.

Tip: You can change the format in which your results display by clicking on the specific icon for Column , Row , or Thumbnail .

  1. When you get a list of results from a search, you can click on the (Information) button to see the descriptive fields (known as Metadata Quick View) for that document such as Title and Creator.

  2. To view the full text of a document, click on the Title.

  3. The document will load as a PDF in multi-page format which means that all pages will load at once. Click on the up and down arrows to view multiple pages or use the scroll bar on the left-hand side to move up and down through the document.
  4. You can switch to a single page or Page by Page view by choosing that option on the top right of the document view window.

    Use the Automatic Zoom feature to magnify or reduce the size of the screen.
    There are a number of additional tools on the top right corner.

  5. You can also click on the (Information) button to see the descriptive fields (known as Metadata Quick View) for that document such as title and creator, alongside the full text document.

  6. Click on the Print/Export icon to print or download the file. You can also use this option to email the document to a specific email address. Please note that this will email the full text of the document to that mail address.
  7. Click on the Print icon to print the document.
  8. Click on the Download icon to save a copy of the document to a local device or disk.
  9. Tip: When viewing a full text document, press the Ctrl and f buttons simultaneously on your keyboard to search within the PDF. This will allow you to search within a document for a specific word or phrase.

  10. Click on the X button in the top right corner of a full text document to return to the initial results list.
  11. There are additional PDF tools available from the double chevron symbol on the right-hand side of the screen.

  1. Type health in the Creator field
  2. Choose Last 7 Days in the Date Laid field
  3. Choose Statutory Instruments from the Subcollection drop-down list
  4. Press enter or click the icon at the top

Tip: If you get no results, try broadening out the Date range in the Date Laid field to the Last Month instead of the Last 7 Days.

  2. Type 2020 in the Date of Publication field

Tip: You can search for multiple years by adding extra Date of Publication Field(s):

  1. Hover your mouse on the right side of the Date of Publication field to display the icon
  2. Click on the icon to add another Date of Publication field
  3. Type an additional year in the new Date of Publication field
  4. Press enter or click the icon at the top

How to use RSS/ access popular searches

RSS feeds or Really Simple Syndication is an online file that contains details about specific content that a site has published. The Oireachtas Library has created some RSS feeds to save you time and provide quick access to content such as the most recently laid documents and all committee reports laid in the current year.

Click on the tiled button to the left of the Browse button and click on RSS feeds.

Click on the RSS feed of interest to you. A separate window will open with a listing of content which meets the criteria for that RSS feed.

You can view the content online or copy the text into a document or local file.
